I am 28 years old and have been married to my husband for almost 4
years. Our son, Jack, who died 6/5/09, is our first and only child. On Friday
afternoon, 6/5/2009, I went to the hospital for a non-stress test, as I noticed
a slight decrease in my baby's movements. My doctor insisted over the
phone that morning that everything sounded completely normal. The baby
had a strong heartbeat that Tuesday, and decreased movement is common
at this late stage of pregnancy. My entire pregnancy was perfectly normal
and healthy; I never got sick and was able to stay active. No complications
existed; always a strong heartbeat. That Friday, instead of the news I was
expecting, which was that everything was fine, the nurses couldn't find a
heart beat. The doctor was called and we were informed that our baby, my
son, had died. Later that night, the doctor induced labor and I gave birth to
Jack Alexander, the most beautiful baby I have ever seen. Jack was 35
weeks old, 4 pounds 6 ounces, and 19 1/2 inches when he passed away.
The doctors don't know what happened and told us that we most likely
would not be able to determine a cause for Jack's death. My husband and I
are utterly shocked and devastated. Jack has given us a tremendous
amount of joy in a very short amount of time and we are eternally grateful
for the time we had with him.
